New Delhi, June 8 (IANS) The crew of "Double Dhamaal" had quite a treat on the sets and not just with actress Mallika Sherawat grooving sensuously to the song "Jalebi bai", but also with piping hot jalebis.
Director Indra Kumar used to order as much as 25 kg of jalebis (Indian sweet) daily for the entire unit to feast on. In fact, on the last day of the song's shoot, all the unit members including choreographer Ganesh Acharya and diet conscious Mallika had a party of sorts with hot jalebis.
"The item song was shot at Mehboob Studio, and the mood was so festive and celebratory that we decided to have sweets everyday in honour of the song! We ordered around 25 kilos of sweets for the entire unit and since sweets are always associated with celebrations, the entire mood of the crew used to be very upbeat," said Kumar.
Mallika is already being talked about for her sizzling dance in the song "Shalu ke thumke" from the yet to be released "Bin Bulaye Baraati", but Kumar says "Jalebi bai" is a step ahead.
"The song promos will be up by this weekend, and we are sure it will be a huge talking point! Mallika has outdone herself as Jalebi bai," he added.
"Double Dhamaal", a co-production by Reliance Pictures and Maruti International, will release June 24. The world premiere of the movie will take place on the same date at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) weekend, to be held in Toronto.

They are close to the extent that he even talked about his break up and the low phase in his life with her. Deepika not only lent him an ear, but also understood his situation and his need to keep it private.”

Lady Gaga’s plans for India

After her fifth desi remix, the latest one with Mumbai-based DJ Aqeel from her recently-released best selling album, Born This Way, American pop sensation Lady Gaga speaks to Sharin Bhatti about her October India tou.
Singer, fashionista, trendsetter, stage performer, post-Madonna, monster… there are many ways to describe three-time Grammy award winner Lady Gaga.
The newest sub-label could be Indophile. The 25 year-old singer’s third studio album, Born This Way, which released in April, has so far gifted her the best commercial success (it set a new iTunes record for going to number one in less than three hours). Out of the 14 tracks on the album, she has worked with Indian music producers, including Salim-Sulaiman, Culture Shock, Punjabi MC and now, DJ Aqeel, to reproduce five desi, dhol-heavy remixes with Indian background vocals, in association with New York-based website desihits.com.
The DJ Aqeel remixed track, Edge of Reason released last week, and in true Bollywood remix style, sounds like a Punjabi dance number. “I got a call from the people at desihits, and they gave me the song to restructure so that it sounded as Bollywood as possible. I was happy to do it. They sent me the track, and I took two weeks to work on it,” says the Mumbai-based DJ. While having created a foothold in the Indian market, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (that’s Gaga’s real name) is looking forward to her India concert tour which has been tentatively scheduled for October.
“We cannot confirm the tour yet because we are still working out the dates. We will be announcing the details soon. But we have collaborated with Indian music producers from across the globe to show respect and appreciation for Gaga’s desi fans and the music community,” says Tony Carter, CEO Atom Factory, Gaga’s management company.
‘I love my India monsters. I can’t wait to come to India’
Congratulations on your new album. This has been a big year for you. Three Grammy wins and a new platinum selling record, with a big India influence. What has drawn you to Indian culture?
I love my India monsters. I can’t wait to come to India. Through my work with these amazing DJs and producers like Culture Shock, Salim and Suleiman, and DJ Aqeel, I feel like I am a big part of Bollywood already.
I love the Indian film music sound. It is very upbeat, dance-oriented and there’s a lot of R ‘n’ B thrown into the mix. I love Indian culture, although frankly, I don’t know much about the country apart from the people I have worked with, and its fashion sense. I would love to know more.
There has been some speculation over cancellation of your India tour because you couldn’t afford it.
That is such crap! In fact, now, I am coming to India because I can. We still haven’t disclosed the details. But I plan to travel to India, go to Bombay…Mumbai… I want to meet Bollywood stars and hang out with them. I want to wear a saree, and dance on the streets. I think there is a lot of colour that India has, and I will fit right in.
You have been compared to Madonna, with your lavish stage shows and your music. Were you inspired by her when you were young?
Madonna is the queen. I have the most respect for her. I don’t think we are the same kind. I can understand why people might think we are alike, because like her, I too don’t do anything conventional. But I think the comparison is unnecessary.
You’ve been both, criticised and lauded, for your fashion sense and your Grammy performance, where you emerged from an egg. How did you react to that?
Good you asked me that because I can now set the record straight. I had gone mental explaining why I did that, which is why I wrote Born This Way (title track of her new album). I think we are a race that’s very judgemental. Expression is more or less curbed. People mock my shoulders, my meat-dress episode, and way of life.
What do you do then?
I want to be better every time I do something insane. The egg performance at the Grammy awards was by far my best. It has a musical and personal significance. It depicts the embryonic state I was in before I was born again to perform.
Essentially, as a pop artist, it was my most cohesive performance. I am proud of that moment.
Why do you call your fans ‘monsters’?
You’ll laugh, but it started during the Monster Ball tour (her second album). I was in Boston and I started noticing a lot of people making animal faces at me, screaming at me, even snarling like cats. And I remember yelling back, saying, ‘You guys are such monsters.’ It sort of caught on from then.
I thought to myself, ‘Oh great. I’ve made my fans monsters!’ But it’s cute. I like it. Now, everywhere I go, even in Singapore, people see me on the street and make cat-faces and scream. People have fans, I have monsters! I bet India is full of monsters as well.

Big B and Sonakshi Sinha signed for Housefull 2?
The cast of Sajid Nadiadwala’s Housefull 2 directed by Sajid Khan seems to be getting bigger by the day. While it is known by now that the film stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, John Abraham, Asin, Jacqueline Fernandez, Chunky Pandey, Randhir and Rishi Kapoor, the maker have now managed a coup of sorts by signing none other than Amitabh Bachchan for a pivotal role in the film.
The buzz is that Big B’s dates are available only post July which has resulted in the schedule ofHousefull 2 being a bit delayed. Besides Big B, the search for the third heroine also seems to have ended and the word doing the rounds is that it’s none other than Sonakshi Sinha who has bagged the plum role.
With a plethora of actors signed for this one, this ‘House’ is already getting ‘Full’ real fast.
